FRIDAY
UIndy opened its season with a 6-4 win against Delta State. The Greyhounds earned the win in come-from-behind fashion, as Delta State jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the end of two innings.

The Greyhounds plated their first three runs in the fifth inning, with Ashley Boxley leading off the inning with a solo homerun. Lindsey Gustine reached on a right-fielder error two batters later, and was brought home by a Maggie Swanson double. Swanson was then brought around on another right field error that put Megan Russell on base.

UIndy's offense sealed the win in the seventh, with Gustine and Jamie Keltz homering back-to-back to lead off the final frame. Maggie Swanson followed with a double and was brought in by a Russell single to close out the Greyhound scoring.

Keltz and Maggie Swanson both went 2-for-4 at the plate in the win, while Amanda Wendlinger earned her first win of the year in the circle. The senior struck out two in her complete game effort.

The Greyhounds took their second win of the day and the season against Wayne State, in an 8-1 final.

Boxley got the scoring started in the second inning, doubling in Sara Agnew to put UIndy up 1-0. The Greyhound offense put up four runs in the third inning, with a solo home run from Keltz and a three-run shot from Jenny Swanson.

UIndy plated one run in the sixth, on a sacrifice fly from Maggie Swanson to score Keltz. The Greyhounds wrapped up their offense in the seventh, with one run on Chrissy Stephens first collegiate RBI. The Warriors scored their lone run in their half of the seventh.

Keltz, Boxley and Jenny Swanson all had two hits apiece on the day, while Russell earned the pitching win, striking out four and walking just one in her seven innings of work.

SATURDAY
UIndy was handed its first loss of the 2009 season in its first game Saturday. The Greyhounds lost 2-1 in eight innings to Columbus State.

Both teams put up single runs in their respective halves of the fifth inning, with Columbus State scoring an unearned run to go up 1-0. Boxley led off the UIndy fifth with a solo homer to knot the score at 1-1, where it stayed until the eighth inning. CS brought in the tiebreaker on a Greyhound catching error to win the game.

Boxley and Gustine posted the lone Greyhound hits in the game, while Russell (1-1) was tagged with the loss.

The Greyhounds rebounded from their first loss with a 5-2 win against Truman State. UIndy scored a lone run in the first inning, with Keltz leading off the game with a double. She would later score on a passed ball to put UIndy up 1-0 in the first inning.

Both the Greyhounds and the Bulldogs scored two runs in their third inning trips to the plate. Cat Sampson singled, stole second and then scored on a two-run homer from Boxley for UIndy's two runs. Truman State plated a pair of unearned runs in its third inning to run the score to 3-2.

UIndy added its final two scores in the sixth inning, with Stephens and Gustine both walking to begin the inning. Stephens came around to score on a single from Carmen Martinez, and Gustine followed on a single from Sampson a batter later.

UIndy plated four runs in the seventh to send the game into extra frames, with Gustine and Keltz repeating their back-to-back feat to cut the West Florida lead quickly down to 5-3. A two-run jack by Russell with Boxley on base tied the game 5-5.

The Argos plated four runs in the eighth to take the win, using a three-run homer with two outs to close the door on the Greyhounds. Wendlinger (1-1) was handed the loss, going 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts.

No. 20 Georgia College and State was the final Charger Chillout opponent for UIndy, and the Greyhounds closed out the weekend with a 9-6 win against the Bobcats.

The Greyhounds struck first, plating a pair of runs in the third inning. Maggie Swanson, who tripled to lead off the inning, and Boxley, who walked to reach base, were doubled home by Gutierrez to put UIndy ahead 2-0. Georgia College and State answered back with one run in its third inning to cut the Greyhound lead in half.

Jamie Keltz hammered her fourth homerun of the year to lead off the fourth inning and push the UIndy lead back to a pair, but the Bobcats put up five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead 6-3.

The UIndy offense used five hits in the seventh inning to push across six runs for the win. Sara Agnew walked with one out, and her pinch runner Martinez was brought home on Gutierrez's first collegiate home run a batter later.
