ROMEOVILLE, Ill.- UIndy's softball team earned a split with No. 16 Lewis in GLVC play Saturday, taking a 4-2 win in game one before dropping the nightcap 7-4. The Greyhounds run their record to 12-10, 4-2 in conference play, while the Flyers finished the day 20-9 overall and 4-2 in GLVC games.
In game one, the Greyhounds got on the board early with a solo homerun from
Megan Russell with two outs in the first inning. Neither team would plate another run until the fifth inning, when Russell brought another run around on an RBI single to score
Lindsey Gustine.
Lewis would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on two hits. UIndy took the win with two runs in the seventh inning, with a two-run long ball from
Jamie Keltz scoring Gustine.
Russell and Gustine each had a pair of hits in the game, with Russell and Keltz each posting two RBI. Gustine scored a pair of runs. Russell(5-4) earned the win in the circle, striking out six and walking none in her complete-game effort.
Lewis came back to take the second game of the twinbill, 7-4. UIndy scored its first run in the first inning, with Keltz scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Ashley Boxley. The Flyers answered in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs on a two-run shot from Stephanie Harmon to take the lead.
UIndy regained the lead with two runs in the third, with Russell sending another ball out of the ballpark. This homer again scored Gustine to put the Greyhounds up 3-2. Keltz brought in the final UIndy run in the fourth, scoring
Carmen Martinez, who reached on a single.
The Flyers plated two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth, with Harmon hitting her second homerun in as many at bats in the fourth inning. Lewis put up its three runs on two hits in the fifth, with Harmon singling in one of those runs for her fifth RBI of the game.
Russell's two RBI and second homer of the day led the Greyounds, while
Meagan Gutierrez (4-3) took the loss.
UIndy faces off against Wisconsin-Parkside tomorrow in another GLVC double-dip. First pitch from Kenosha, Wis. is set for 1:00 EST, with game two set for 3:00.
