INDIANAPOLIS-  The Greyhound softball team finished up a four-game sweep of the weekend, blanking Rockhurst 2-0 and 8-0 at the Indiana Central Little League complex Sunday.  UIndy (23-13, 14-4 GLVC) did not allow a run in the four games, outscoring its opponents 26-0.

The offense was the story Saturday, but the Greyhound pitching staff took center stage Easter Sunday.  Game one starter Megan Russell carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before squandering a pair of singles to open the inning.  The junior rared back and retired the next three batters to get out of the jam and hang on to the 2-0 lead the offense gave her.

Those two runs came in the fourth when Jenny Swanson hit a two-out single and Carmen Martinez spanked a double.  Both would score on the play on a Hawks' throwing error, giving Russell plenty of cushion.

She retired the Hawks 1-2-3 in the last two innings to earn her 11th win of the season, striking out nine while walking just one.

In game two, Amanda Wendlinger continued the solid pitching performance by one-hitting the visitors.  UIndy scored a quick pair of runs in the bottom of the first, sending eight batters to the plate with the aid of just one hit.

The real damage came in the second inning when Lindsey Gustine singled, stole second and later scored followed by a walk and a Maggie Swanson single.  Russell, with two aboard, smashed her 14th homer of the season over the left-center field wall and UIndy owned a 6-0 advantage.

Wendlinger continued to cruise, striking out four Rockhurst (14-14, 4-8) batters with only two walks.  Her teammates helped shorten the game, tacking-on two more runs in the fourth to give UIndy the eight runs it needed to put the mercy rule in play after five innings.

Wendlinger improved to 7-4 with the win, lowering her season earned run average to 1.88 in the process.  Maggie Swanson had three hits and scored three runs in the second game as she collected five hits in six at bats Sunday.

UIndy will close out its home schedule with an in-region doubleheader against Hillsdale on Thursday at Indiana Central Little League.
