UIndy 9, KWC 1 (6 innings)
OWENSBORO, Ky.- UIndy split a doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday, falling 1-0 in game one of the day before taking game two 9-1 in six innings. The twinbill was the second to last of the regular season for the Greyhounds, who are now 28-14 overall and 17-5 in the GLVC. UIndy currently stands in third place in the conference standings, heading into tomorrow's final GLVC contests of the year.
GAME 1
Kentucky Wesleyan plated its lone run in the fifth, with a lead-off double coming around to score after being sacrificed over to third. The run scored on a two-out RBI single.
Megan Russell sufferred the loss in the circle, falling to 13-6 on the season. The loss was Russell's first since Apr. 5 at Quincy, and the Panther run in the fifth was the first run the junior surrendered in 39 and one-third innings.
Carmen Martinez was the lone Greyhound to register more than one hit, going 2-for-3 at the plate with half of the UIndy offensive output.
GAME 2
UIndy was the first on the board in game two, plating a single run in the first inning.
Maggie Swanson singled with one out to start things off, and advanced to second on a groundout by Russell. Maggie came around to score on a single by sister
Jenny Swanson two batters later for the run.
Maggie Swanson doubled the UIndy run total in the top of the third inning, scoring after striking out and reaching first on a wild pitch. She stole second and scored on a single by
Ashley Boxley.
The Greyhounds blew it open in the fifth inning, with
Jamie Keltz leading off the inning with a single.
Maggie Swanson was hit by a pitch in the next UIndy at bat, and both came home on a two-RBI double by Russell, who scored a batter later on a single by Boxley.
Jenny Swanson reached on a fielder's choice, and scored on a one-out double by
Sara Agnew. Martinez (pictured) was hit by a pitch, and the bases were loaded after
Chrissy Stephens earned a walk.
Lindsey Gustine also walked, plating Agnew for the fifth run of the inning.
Russell led off the sixth with a single, but later was thrown out at third. Boxley followed with a walk, and
Jenny Swanson juiced the bases with a single. A two-out single from Martinez scored Boxley, and
Jenny Swanson came around to score on a single from Gustine after Stephens walked for the last Greyhound run.
KWC plated its lone run in the bottom of the sixth. A one-out single came around to score on an error by the Greyhound thirdbaseman for the unearned run.
Amanda Wendlinger earned the win in game two, running her record to 10-4 on the year. She scattered seven hits during her six innings of work. Martinez, Agnew,
Jenny Swanson, Boxley and Russell all each had two hits for the Greyhounds.
UIndy closes out its regular season Sunday at Southern Indiana. It will then play in the GLVC Tournament next weekend in Peoria, Ill.
