EVANSVILLE, Ind.- A quiet Greyhound offense managed just one run on the day at Southern Indiana, losing both games of its final GLVC doubleheader of the year. UIndy fell 2-0 in game one and 5-1 in the nightcap to drop its record 28-16 on the year, 17-7 in GLVC play.
GAME 1
Offense eluded the Greyhounds in game one, with Southern Indiana needing just two runs in the fourth inning to take the win. The Screaming Eagles' Amanda Brendel led off the frame with a homer to right center, and the second run came after Sara Loete reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a third base throwing error followed by a double from Dani Finkelstein.
UIndy managed six hits in the game, while
Megan Russell took the loss. Russell's record drops to 13-7 with the setback.
GAME 2
The outlook seemed brighter for UIndy in the first inning of game two, with the Greyhounds plating the game's first run.
Maggie Swanson drew a one-out walk, stole second, and scored on a two-out double from
Ashley Boxley to put UIndy up 1-0.
USI answered back quickly, scoring all five of its runs in the the bottom of the first. Lacey Ligmanowski and Tara McConnell led off the frame with back-to-back singles, with Ligmanowski coming around to score on a throwing error by the Greyhound pitcher. McConnell scored two batters later on a bases-loaded single from Brittany DeWeese through the left side. Loete followed with a two-run single to left center, and DeWeese scored a batter later on a Dawn McClellan base hit.
In all, UIndy collected just two hits in game two, with Boxley's single in the first and a triple from
Lindsey Gustine in the fifth inning.
Amanda Wendlinger was saddled with the loss, tossing the complete game to take her 10th loss of the season.
The Greyhounds will take on No. 6-seeded Northern Kentucky in the first round of the GLVC Tournament Friday at 11:00 a.m. in East Peoria, Ill.
