Greyhounds split with league-leading Quincy

QUINCY, Ill.- In a matchup of two of the GLVC's top teams, the Greyhound softball team split a doubleheader at Quincy. The host Lady Hawks took game one of the day 4-1 before UIndy rebounded with a 3-2 victory in game two. The 1-1 record on the day pushed the Greyhounds' record to 19-13 on the season, 10-4 in GLVC play.

GAME 1
UIndy scored its lone run in the second inning, with Jessica Breeden crossing the plate after reaching on a fielder's choice. Breeden stole second, and then advanced to third on a Cat Sampson walk. She was walked in when Lindsey Gustine walked a batter later.

Quincy answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second, and plated another pair on two hits in the bottom of the fourth for the win.  

Megan Russell took the loss for the Greyhounds, tossing six innings. She scattered five hits and struck out three in the effort. The loss drops Russell to 9-5 on the season. The Lady Hawks' Torie Bunzell tossed her second no-hitter in as many days in earning the win.

GAME 2
The Greyhounds took the 3-2 win in game two behind a two-run homer from Gustine (pictured) in the top of the sixth inning. Quincy scored first in the second game, plating one run in the third. Neither team scored until Gustine's bomb cleared the center field fence, scoring Carmen Martinez.

UIndy pushed one more run across in the seventh inning, with Breeden leading off the inning with a single to center field. She was moved around by his from Russell and Sampson and eventually scored on an error by the Lady Hawks' third baseman.

Quincy scored its second run with two outs in the final inning of play on a pair of hits. Amanda Wendlinger held on for the win, however, striking out the final Lady Hawk for the victory. Wendlinger(5-4) struck out seven while allowing five hits in her seven innings in the circle.

Sampson and Gustine each had a pair of hits in game two, with Gustine leading the way with her two-RBI homer.

The Greyhounds continue on in the GLVC race this weekend, hosting Rockhurst and Drury for a pair of doubleheaders at Indiana Central Little League Saturday and Sunday.
