9-0 win against S&T keeps UIndy alive in GLVC Tourny

PEORIA, Ill.- UIndy stayed alive in GLVC Tournament play Friday afternoon, beating Missouri-S&T 9-0 in six innings. The win pushes the Greyhounds on in tournament play, where they will face the loser of this evening's Lewis/Missouri-St.Louis game Saturday at noon at East Side Centre.

The Greyhound bats from game one's seventh inning stayed awake to start game two, with UIndy taking the early 4-0 after the top of the first frame. Megan Russell started things off, sending her 15th home run of the year over the centerfield fence. Ashley Boxley followed with a single through the left side, and Jenny Swanson found herself on base on an error. Jessica Breeden brought both Boxley and Swanson home on her second homerun of the day, sending this ball over the centerfield fence for the second, third and fourth Greyhound runs.

UIndy plated another pair of runs in the fifth inning, with Maggie Swanson leading off the frame with an infield single. She stole second, and was followed a couple of batters later with a pair of one-out walks to Boxley and Jenny Swanson. Breeden singled up the middle to plate both Boxley and Maggie Swanson for the the two Greyhound scores.

Maggie Swanson and Russell put the final nails in the Missouri S&T coffin, jacking back-to-back homers in the sixth inning for a total of three UIndy runs. Maggie Swanson's shot went deep to center, and scored Lindsey Gustine, who reached on a single down the right field line. Russell followed Mags with her second homer of the game, a solo shot to right, pushing the UIndy lead to 9-0.

Amanda Wendlinger got three groundballs to seal the six-inning win, striking out four in the four-hit shutout effort to run her record to 11-5 on the season.
