QUINCY, Ill.- The Greyhound softball squad fell in both games of a doubleheader at Quincy Saturday, dropping both games by a score of 3-1. The two setbacks put UIndy's record at 9-4-1 on the season, 1-3 in GLVC play.
GAME 1: Quincy 3 - UIndy 1
After taking a 1-0 lead on a
Jamie Keltz homerun to left-center in the first atbat of the game, the Greyhounds gave up their lead and the win by allowing three runs from Quincy in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The inning started with a single to rightcenter by the Lady Hawks' Lauren Francis. Her pinch runner stole second, and advanced to third on a single to centerfield a batter later.
A fielder's choice brought in one run, and a two-run single by Ashleigh Roscetti pushed the score to 3-1 in favor of Quincy.
Jennifer DeMotte (6-3) took the loss for UIndy in the circle, striking out five while allowing the three Lady Hawk runs on four hits.
GAME 2: Quincy 3 - UIndy 1
Quincy got on the board first in game two, plating three runs on a pair of hits in the third inning. A single by Francis again started the inning for the Lady Hawks, and her pinch runner again stole second. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, Quincy had runners on second and third.
An RBI groundout, followed by a two-run homer to right center by Whitney Kroeger put the Lady Hawks up 3-0.
The Greyhounds put up their lone run in the fifth inning, with
Krysta Bradford starting things off with a single to the shortstop. She went to second on an error by the Quincy secondbaseman, and made it home on a single to right center by
Audrey Ernst.
Lauren Edwards suffered the pitching loss in game two, falling to 1-1 on the season.
UIndy looks to rebound on its Spring Break trip to the Rebel Spring Games. The Greyhounds will eight games over five days in Kissimmee, Fla., includeing two matchups with in-region Wayne State. Rebel Spring Games action opens for UIndy Mar. 14 when the Greyhounds play C.W. Post and Wayne State.
