EAST PEORIA, Ill.- Fourth-seeded UIndy bowed out of the 2011 GLVC Softball Championships with a 5-4 loss at the hands of No. 8-seed Rockhurst to open play Saturday morning at the EastSide Centre. The No. 14 Greyhounds fall to 34-12-1 with the loss and now await the NCAA Tournament field selections to continue their season.
A solo homerun off the bat of
Jamie Keltz in the bottom of the third broke a scoreless tie and staked the Greyhounds to a 1-0 lead. Rockhurst took the run back a half-inning later, however, scoring a single run on an RBI double by Amanda Burger.
The Hawks took the lead in the next inning, plating one run on a single through the right side.
Rockhurst padded its lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. All three Hawk scores came home on a homerun to centerfield by Lizzy Tucker, pushing the Rockhurst lead to 5-1.
The Greyhounds mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, starting with a one-out walk issued to
Lauren Edwards.
Krysta Bradford followed with a single to leftfield to put runners on first and second.
Both runners moved over on a groundout to first by
Kelsey Rummel, and a Keltz double plated both Edwards and Bradford.
Keltz came around to score the final run on a single through the leftside by
Audrey Ernst, who was out at secondbase on the play trying to stretch out a double.
Edwards suffered the loss, falling to 7-5 on the year. Keltz was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
