#11 Greyhounds win fifth and sixth straight with sweep of Quincy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill.- The #11 UIndy softball team moved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 on the young GLVC season with a pair of wins at Quincy Sunday afternoon.

#11 UIndy 13, Quincy 1 (5 inn.)
The UIndy offense picked up right where it left off yesterday, plating 13 runs in a 13-1 rout of the Lady Hawks.

The Greyhounds put up five runs in the top of the first inning on one hit and one Quincy error. Kelsey Rummel opened the inning by reaching on an error by the leftfielder. The 2011 All-American then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She scored a batter later on a triple down the right field line by Taylor Russell.

The other four UIndy runs of the inning came in on a walk, a wild pitch, a hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly by Krysta Bradford, putting the Greyhounds up 5-0 heading to the second.

UIndy put up another three runs in the top of the second to take an 8-0 advantage, with all three coming on an Alexa Alfaro home run to centerfield. Jennifer DeMotte and Casey Williamson both scored on the play.

The Greyhounds added another three in the fourth, on another homerun ball. Cori Eckerle sent a shot out over the right field fence, plating Alfaro and Williamson to stake UIndy to an 11-0 lead.

Quincy pushed across its lone run in the fourth, on a pair of UIndy errors.

The Greyhounds closed out the win in the top of the fifth, with a pair of runs on three hits. Wiliamson brought in both Sydney Russell and Bradford on a two-RBI double to seal the UIndy victory.

DeMotte (8-1) collected the pitching win, striking out six and surrendering just two hits to Quincy. The offense was paced by Williamson's 2-for-2 showing at the plate, while the UIndy freshman also had three runs scored and two RBIs in the contest. Alfaro added four RBIs and three runs scored for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds put a single run on the board in the top of the first, with Taylor Russell scoring on a wild pitch after ripping a one-out triple to right field.  

Quincy answered with a single run of its own in the bottom of the inning, on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

UIndy put itself up 5-0 with four runs in the top of the third inning, on four hits. An Alfaro single to centerfield scored two, while Briana Clark also brought in a run on a centerfield single later in the inning. The fourth Greyhound score was able to come in via a wild pitch with Eckerle on third.

The Lady Hawks put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to push the score to 5-3 Greyhounds, on two hits and a UIndy error.

Alfaro brough in another pair of runs in the fourth on a single to right field, plating Williamson and Rummel. Quincy put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer by Roscetti to bring the final score to 7-5 UIndy.

Rummel, Williamson and Alfaro each had two hits in the win for the Greyhounds, with Alfaro posting four RBIs. Audrey Ernst earned the win in the circle, tossing four innings before giving way to DeMotte.

UIndy continues GLVC play next weekend with its 2012 home opening weekend against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis next week.
