ROLLA, Mo. – The UIndy football team earned a statement win Saturday night as the Greyhounds (3-2, 3-0 GLVC) notched a 54-35 victory versus Missouri S&T at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.  The final handed the Miners (4-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season while also giving the Greyhounds sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.

Junior Klay Fiechter finished with an impressive 272 all-purpose yards and a career-high-tying four touchdowns.  One hundred and ninety of his yards came on the ground, including a 78-yard scamper in the third quarter.  All four numbers were good for single-game GLVC highs this season.

After falling behind 14-7, the Greyhounds exploded for 26 second-quarter points, with 19 coming in the final six minutes of the half.  A pair of interceptions helped seize the momentum for UIndy, as veteran linebackers Max Davis and Tyler Peterman each earned their first picks of the season in the game-changing second quarter.

The Hounds kept the gas pedal down with a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter to build a 40-14 advantage.  The drive was bookended by big plays from Fiechter, who started the series with 44-yard kickoff return and finished it with a 34-yard touchdown run.

The lead topped out at 33 points when Fiechter tacked on his fourth TD on the Hounds' next possession.  The Miners added three touchdowns in the game's final 24 minutes, but it proved too little, too late.

Junior QB Chris Mills finished 18-for-22 with a season-high 270 passing yards and two TDs.  He also added 22 rushing yards on three carries.  Mills had just three incompletions in 19 first-half attempts.

Sophomore Greg Johnson led the Greyhound receivers with six catches for 95 yards.  He recorded his first collegiate touchdown with an 11-yard grab in the second.

Defensively, Peterman led the way with a game-high 13 total tackles, including 11 solo efforts and three for a loss.  Davis' 10 stops upped his double-digit tackles streak to eight games.

Junior DL Vince Maida earned two sacks, while junior DB Jerrett Ban added a late interception.  All three Greyhound interceptions led to touchdowns.

UIndy hosts Saint Joseph's Saturday, Oct. 6, in a match-up of Indiana's only two NCAA Division II football teams.  Fittingly, the event marks the Hounds' annual Homecoming game, as four of the team's next five contests will be played at Key Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Eastern.

Note:  Fiechter's 190 rushing yards marked the fifth-highest total by a Greyhound since 1983, the first season single-game rushing records are readily available ... UIndy's 26-point outburst in the second quarter marked the Hounds' most points scored in a quarter since they hung 27 on Tiffin in the second quarter of a Oct. 25, 2008 contest; the Hounds also finished with 54 points in that game.
