DECATUR, Ala. – The No. 15 UIndy softball team (2-0) opened its season with a pair of victories Friday at the Charger Chillout, hosted by the University of Alabama at Huntsville.  The Greyhounds shut out Tiffin, 5-0, before routing Charleston, 13-1.

GAME ONE
All-American pitcher Jennifer DeMotte picked up right where she left off last year, hurling a complete-game shutout versus the in-region Dragons (0-1).  DeMotte earned the win by striking out nine while allowed six hits and two walks in seven innings.

Offensively, the Greyhounds loaded the bases in each of the first two innings but were unable to push a run across until the third.  The UIndy hitters parlayed three walks, three wild pitches and a passed ball into two runs, as both Samantha Krcelich and Cori Eckerle touched home in the frame.

The momentum carried over into the fourth when two more Greyhounds scored.  The inning featured sacrifice files from Alexa Alfaro and DeMotte, two stolen bases from Kelsey Rummel and a one-out triple from Casey Williamson.

The Hounds tacked on their final tally on a leadoff homer from Williamson in the sixth.

Tiffin's best opportunity came in the bottom of the fourth when a fielding error and a double put runners at second and third with nobody out.  DeMotte induced three straight pop ups, however, to send the Dragons away empty handed and keep the shutout intact.

Taylor Russell joined Williamson as the only Hounds with two hits, while Rummel finished with four steals.

GAME TWO

The Hounds needed just four at bats to hang 13 runs on the Golden Eagles (0-2).  UIndy scored three in the first inning on a bases-loaded double from Bailey Wittenauer.  The team combined for five more doubles in the third and fourth frames on the way to 10 more tallies.

Both Rummel and Wittenauer generated three hits, with the latter driving in four runs.  Rummel finished with a total of seven stolen bases in Friday's two games.

Morgan Foley picked up her first collegiate win in the circle, striking out six Charleston batters and allowing just one hit in four innings.

The 24-team Chillout presents a tough schedule for the Hounds tomorrow.  Play starts with a match-up versus defending national-champion and top-ranked Valdosta State at noon Eastern, followed by a region contest versus Wayne State at 4 p.m.
