DECATUR, Mo. – Sophomore Samantha Krcelich delivered a two-out, two-run homerun to lift the No. 15 UIndy softball team to a 3-2 walkoff win versus No. 1 Valdosta State Saturday at the Charger Chillout, hosted by the University of Alabama at Huntsville.  The Greyhounds (4-0) followed that with an 11-2 victory versus in-region Wayne State in game two.

GAME ONE
The Hounds went toe-to-toe with the No. 1-ranked Blazers, took the defending national champs' best shot, and got back up to deliver the knockout blow in the seventh and final inning.

With the scored tied 1-1 heading into the seventh, VSU shortstop Courtney Albritton connected for a one-out solo homerun to give the Blazers the lead heading into the final frame.

The Hounds started the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back strikeouts to find themselves down to their final out, but senior Jennifer DeMotte kept hope alive with a single through the left side.  Slamming Sammy Krcelich then played the hero by pulling a pitch over the left field wall to give UIndy the walkoff win.

Starting pitching Morgan Foley struck out 12 in a complete-game effort.  Only two of the Blazers' three runs were earned, as the Greyhound fielders were charged with five errors on the day.

Four of the game's five runs were scored via the homerun, including sophomore Taylor Russell's solo shot in the second inning.

GAME TWO
The Greyhounds' second game of the day didn't feature a ranked opponent or any of the drama of that the first contest delivered, but unlike the Valdosta State win, Saturday's second result counted as a region victory for the Hounds.

Neither team scored until Wayne State (0-3) used a three-hit fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead.  UIndy's emphatic answer was an 11 spot in the top of the fifth to all but put the game out of reach.  Three Greyhounds scored twice in the monster frame, with Sydney Russell (triple) and Erika Goodwin (double) providing the only extra-base hits.

DeMotte pitched four innings to move to 2-0 on the young season.  Freshman Coryn Tirpak finished the game and allowed an unearned tally in her only inning of work.

The Chillout concludes tomorrow when the Hounds take on Truman State at noon Eastern and Augusta State at 4 p.m.
