INDIANAPOLIS – After the cancellation of two home dates earlier this season, the UIndy softball team finally made its 2013 home debut as the second-ranked Greyhounds (26-2, 8-0 GLVC) shut out visiting Wisconsin-Parkside (5-16, 2-7) by scores of 8-0 and 7-0 on Good Friday.

The Hounds have been rather stingy of late when it comes to allowing runs.  UIndy has not allowed an opponent to cross home plate in 28 consecutive innings and have only forfeited two runs in eight GLVC games this season.

GAME ONE

Senior Jennifer DeMotte (13-0) just missed her fifth career no-hitter in game one.  The veteran pitcher retired 18 of the 20 batters she faced, including seven via strikeout.  A swinging bunt in the third inning proved to be the only hit the Rangers could muster.

Offensively, the Hounds pounded a season-high four home runs to help invoke the mercy rule after six innings.  UIndy managed back-to-back dingers in both the fifth and sixth innings, including a walk-off homer by Casey Williamson.  Three of the long balls were of the solo variety, while Bailey Wittenauer's fifth-inning tater was good for two scores.

GAME TWO
The freshman pitching tandem of Morgan Foley and Lauren Swenson combined to blank the Rangers for all seven frames in the capper.  Foley (13-2) got the start and struck out 11 batters and walked none in six innings of work, while Swenson finished off the job by working a scoreless seventh inning.

The Greyhounds plated all of their runs in two innings, with three scores coming in the fourth and four in the sixth.  The highlight came when senior Kelsey Rummel delivered her first bomb of the season with a three-run shot with two down in the sixth.

Rummel finished with a team-high four ribbes on the day, while Williamson went 5-for-7 (.714) with three runs and three steals in the doubleheader.

The Greyhounds remain in town to host GLVC East rival Lewis Saturday.  First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon Eastern.  Live stats can be viewed here.
