KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Ranked fourth in the newly released NFCA Division II poll, the UIndy softball team (16-2) extended its winning streak to nine Wednesday with a pair of wins at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Greyhounds defeated Notre Dame College, 5-1, before blanking Lake Erie, 8-0, in five innings.
GAME ONE
After allowing an unearned run in the first, freshman pitcher
Morgan Foley dominated the Falcons (4-5) by retiring 19 of the final 22 hitters in the game. She mixed in 13 strikeouts and surrendered just two hits in the complete game win.
The Hounds got on the scoreboard with three runs in the fourth inning, as
Casey Williamson and
Bailey Wittenauer both went deep in the frame. The UIndy offense later pushed across two unearned runs on RBI hits from
Erika Goodwin and
Taylor Russell.
GAME TWO
The Hounds' pitching dominance continued in Wednesday's second game, as senior
Jennifer DeMotte tossed her fourth career no-hitter versus the over-matched Storm (1-4). DeMotte, who finished with eight Ks, was perfect through four innings before allowing a leadoff walk in the fifth and final frame.
DeMotte also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI doubles. Williamson managed three hits in three at bats, including a two-run triple, while adding two stolen bases.
The Hounds wrap up their Spring Break trip with a doubleheader versus in-region Saginaw Valley State tomorrow starting at 11 a.m.
