RENSSELAER, Ind. – The UIndy softball team continued its romp through the Great Lakes Valley Conference, sweeping 2012 Midwest Region-champion Saint Jospeh's, 8-0 and 5-1, Tuesday. The No. 2 Greyhounds (30-2, 12-0) allowed a single unearned tally on the day to improve their Division II-leading team ERA to a microscopic 0.85.
GAME ONE
The Hounds jumped on the Pumas early as
Erika Goodwin led off the game with a single and later scored on a base hit from
Jennifer DeMotte.
The score remained 1-0 through three innings, but UIndy scored seven times in the final three frames to pull away from its host. DeMotte and
Samantha Krcelich each had solo homers down the stretch, while Krcelich, Goodwin, and
Alexa Alfaro all added doubles.
In addition to three hits and two ribbies at the plate, DeMotte also pitched six scoreless innings in the circle. She struck out five and walked one to improve her record to a spotless 14-0 on the season.
Goodwin had three hits to go with two runs and two RBI.
GAME TWO
After a quiet first inning, the UIndy offense once again found a groove, putting a combined 11 runners on base and scoring five runs in the second, third and fourth frames.
The Pumas (13-8, 5-8) finally scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a pair of walks, a single and Greyhound fielding error.
Casey Williamson recorded hits in each of her three final at bats of the day, highlighted by a two-run home run in the third. The sophomore outfielder has homered in the last four conference doubleheaders.
Freshman
Morgan Foley (16-2) notched her 12th complete game, striking out 10 and surrendering four hits.
UIndy remains on the road with a pair of GLVC doubleheaders this weekend, starting with two match-ups with Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday, Apr. 6.
