OWENSBORO, Ky. – In its first-ever action as the nation's No. 1-ranked squad, the UIndy softball team (32-2, 14-0 GLVC) came away with two wins at Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday.  Freshman pitcher Morgan Foley notched two wins in the circle while sophomore Casey Williamson produced the game-winning hit in the final inning of game one.

The host Panthers (10-20, 6-13) were not intimidated by the Greyhounds' top ranking, as KWC managed more runs and more hits than any other UIndy conference opponent to date.  Nevertheless, the Hounds broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning of the first game, then quelled a seventh-inning Panther rally in game two.

GAME ONE
KWC scored a game-tying tally in the bottom of the sixth inning of the opener before the Hounds delivered the knockout blow in the top of the seventh and final frame.  Freshman Erica Goodwin led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a Taylor Russell sac bunt, and touched home on Williamson's base hit through the right side.

UIndy went on to add three insurance runs, with two coming on a pinch-hit double from Jenny Thompson.

Starting pitcher Jennifer DeMotte allowed just one (unearned) run through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth; a double and a pair of walks loaded the bases with nobody out.  DeMotte responded by striking out the next two batters, but KWC second baseman Amber Pendergraft sent a clean single to left, knotting the score at 2-2 and chasing DeMotte from the game.

UIndy head coach Melissa Frost-Fisher went to strikeout-artist Foley for relief, but before the freshman could record an out herself, catcher Cori Eckerle fired down to third base to pick off KWC sophomore Ashley Crooke and end the threat.

GAME TWO
The Hounds once again needed to quiet some late noise by the Panthers to secure the win.  Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, KWC started the frame with hits by three of its first four batters to bring the potential tying run to the plate with one out.

Foley (18-2), who got the start in game two, induced a harmless foul pop before striking out her ninth and final Panther to earn her second win of the day.

The Greyhounds' scoring came with one run in the second inning, two in the third and one in the seventh.  Senior Bailey Wittenauer, who led off the second with her first triple of the season, scored the game's first run on a successful squeeze bunt by Krysta Bradford.

Wittenauer added an RBI single in the third inning, while Williamson matched the feat in the seventh.

The Greyhounds bring a 25-game win streak into Sunday's doubleheader at Southern Indiana*.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern.  Click here during game time for live stats, audio and video.
