Greyhounds take GLVC dog fight, 2-0

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.- UIndy men's soccer rebounded from a Friday Great Lakes Valley Conference loss to take a 2-0 victory over Truman State in league action Sunday.

The Greyhounds (6-4-2; 6-3-1 GLVC) tallied both of their goals in the first 20 minutes of the match, within about five minutes of each other. UIndy got on the board first at the 14:36 mark, with Ngwese Ebangwese putting away a penalty kick chance for his third goal of the year.

Casey Castle took a cross from Ebangwese about five minutes later, in the 19th minute, burying a shot into the left side of the frame for his second goal of the year.

Host Truman State (6-6-1; 4-5-1 GLVC) out-shot UIndy 18-12 in the match, and also took more corner kicks (5-3) than the Greyhounds. Ebangwese and Castle each took three shots in the match to lead the UIndy offense, while Daniel Wellmann also took a pair of shots.

Andrew Verhonik took the win in goal, making five saves in facing the 18 Bulldog shots to preserve the cleansheet, his third of the year.

The Greyhounds return to Indianapolis for another GLVC series next weekend, hosting Missouri-St. Louis Friday and Maryville Sunday. Friday's match will be Braden's night at Key Stadium, honoring UIndy's youngest studnet-athlete, Braden Tamosaitis from TeamIMPACT. Read more about Braden's relationship with the team here. Friday's admission will be either a new, in-package beach ball or a donation to UIndy for Riley. Sunday will feature Senior Day festivities.
