INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound men's soccer team took a heartbreaking 1-0 double-overtime loss to Lewis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday.
UIndy (8-5-3; 8-4-2 GLVC) fell to the Flyers (10-4-2; 9-3-2 GLVC) on a score in the final 30 seconds of the second overtime, with Robert Zieba notching his third goal of the year on a ball from Michael Pyle with just 23 seconds on the clock. Zieba sent a shot to the top of the frame across the UIndy goal from 25 yards out to give the Flyers the thrilling win.
Zak Mitiche accounted for the best UIndy shot in the loss, taking a great cross from
Jacob Meyer in the 66th minute and sending it to the upper right corner of the frame, but just off the post.
The Greyhounds out-shot the visitors 21-7 in the match, with both teams putting five shots on goal.
Daniel Wellmann's five shots led the UIndy offense, while both
Ngwese Ebangwese and
Patrick O'Brien each fired off three shots in the loss.
Andrew Verhonik took the loss, making four saves in facing the seven Flyer shots.
UIndy heads to Saint Joseph's Wednesday to close out the 2014 regular season, and will await bracketing for the GLVC Men's Soccer Championsihp Tournament following the close of the regular slate.
