ROLLA, Mo.- The UIndy men's soccer offense got rolling Sunday at Missouri S&T, with the Greyhounds taking a 4-0 win in GLVC action versus the host Miners.
UIndy (1-3-2; 1-2-1 GLVC) notched its first victory of the season behind hanging four goals on Missouri S&T (2-3-1, 1-2-1 GLVC), doubling its total for the entire season to this point in the 90 minute contest.
The Greyhounds posted their first goal early, with
Jacob Meyer opening the scoring at the 3:43 mark. The sophomore took a pass from
Daniel Wellmann in front of the goal, and sent it off of a Miner defender to stake UIndy to the early 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds would jump ahead 2-0 just after the 40-minute mark, with 2013 GLVC Offensive Player of the Year
Ngwese Ebangwese putting away his first score of the year. Wahsay took a rebound of a
Quinton Bridegroom shot and found the back of the net for the 2-0 UIndy lead.
After the half, the Greyhounds were able to ice the victory with another pair of goals. Wellmann, already with an assist on the scoresheet, tallied the third UIndy goal in the 60th minute, taking a long feed from
Julian Shamsaie and sending it into the right side of the goal from 15 yards.
Casey Castle then closed out the UIndy scoring about 16 minutes later, stealing the ball and sending a shot good from about 12 yards.
The Greyhounds held a 17-11 advantage in shots on the match, paced by Ebangwese's five and Castle's four. UIndy also took four corner kicks to the Miners' one.
Andrew Verhonik preserved the shutout in goal, making four saves in 90 minutes of work.
UIndy will play another weekend away from Key Stadium next week, heading to McKendree and Bellarmine for a Friday/Sunday series. Friday's matchup with the Bearcats is slated for 8:30 p.m. EST.
