INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's soccer team used some late game magic from one of its youngest members to notch a 1-0 double overtime win over Illinois Springfield and extend their winning streak to three matches.
Â
Friday night also marked the second career start for Greyhounds' TeamIMPACT student-athlete
Braden Tamosaitis, who joined his fellow teammates on the pitch for a ceremonial kick-off. Throughout the night, UIndy raised $701, which will be split between the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance and the Spina Bifida Association.
GAME CHANGERWith less than four minutes to go before the game ended in a draw, the Greyhounds got the game winner off the head of freshman
Sang Uk. After
Jacob Meyer sent a cross into the box, the ball went off the fingertips of UIS goalkeeper Tommy Geile and right to Uk, who headed the ball just past the goal line for his first goal in a Greyhound uniform.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCOREShots were 14-4 in favor of the Greyhounds with UIndy placing five shots on goal to none for the Prairie Stars.
David Kurz led all players with three shots while
Zak Mitiche,
Leo Cunningham and Meyer finished with two shots each.
Â
Friday night marked the seventh shutout of the year for the Greyhounds, matching the program's single-season record for clean sheets.
Christopher Jones earned the decision for the Greyhounds in goal, lowering his goals against average to 0.59 on the year.
UIndy has played in seven games past regulation this year, improving to 3-2-2 in those matches with Friday's win.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDSMidfielder
Sang Uk: "I can't thank coach enough for the opportunity to be in the game late and help the team win. I saw the keeper miss the ball at the end and just got a head on it. After that, I didn't know what to do but celebrate with my teammates."
Â
Head coach John Higgins: "It was a massive result for us tonight. We passed it as well as we have all year and give UIS credit, they were able to adjust. But our bench guys have all been training hard and we played a lot of our young guys late in that game. Everyone earned their opportunity to play tonight and they made the best of it."
Â
"Our offense has been stagnant at times and we haven't scored as much as we have in the past, so matching the program record for shutouts in a season is a real compliment to how our back four and Chris Jones have played this year."
