INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's soccer team ran their winning streak to four games in dramatic fashion on Sunday, scoring twice in the second half to earn a 2-1 win over McKendree University to close out the weekend.
GAME CHANGERThe winning goal came with less than six minutes to go in the second half when
Jacob Meyer headed a crossing feed from
David Kurz into the back of the net to put the Greyhounds up for good on the junior's second goal of the day and team-leading sixth of the year.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCOREMeyer tallied his first goal of the game in the 49
th minute, taking a crossing pass from
Zak Mitiche and letting a shot go from just off the goal line that bounced off a pair of Bearcat defenders and into the back of the net to tie the game.
Â
The Greyhounds dominated the Bearcats on the shot clock, holding a 20-5 advantage in shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. Mitiche led all players with five shots and finished tied with Meyer for most shots on goal with three on the day. A total of 10 Greyhounds finished with at least one shot attempt on the day.

Â
The Bearcats got the first goal of the match in the 36

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDSForward
Jacob Meyer: "Coming out in the second half, we knew we had a chance to win the game and we put our foot on the gas in the second half. Everyone came out in the second half and played really well and it was a big win for us."
Â
"We need to keep doing the simple things right. We've been great defensively and we'll get our shots in this week to get ready for a really good Rockhurst team. We need to keep doing what we've been doing lately and we'll be ready for Friday."
Â
Head coach John Higgins: "It was a great response from our guys today in the second half. I felt when that first goal went in, the only way I thought we were going to lose is if we lost our composure. Our guys did all the right things in the second half and they stuck to the gameplan and it paid off with a win."
Â
"Jake's movement has been great lately. I thought we had some chances in the first half to get in behind their defense and we were really able to do that in the second half. Credit to
David Kurz for a great cross on the winner but our guys did a great job with their services and we cashed in on a pair of good balls to get the win."
