Hounds strike early, shutout Cardinals in record-setting performance

THE FINAL WHISTLE
Final: UIndy 4 – William Jewell 0
Records: UIndy 8-4-2 (7-3-2 GLVC) | William Jewell (3-9-2 GLVC)
Location: Greene Stadium – Liberty, Mo.

LIBERTY, Mo. – Playing their final regular season road match of the year, the University of Indianapolis men's soccer team set a new program record with a 4-0 win over William Jewell.

Three different Greyhounds found the back of the net and UIndy held an opponent off the scoreboard for the eighth time this year, setting a new single-season program record for the Greyhounds.

GAME CHANGER
Sophomore midfielder Josh Ling wasted no time giving the Greyhounds a lead they would not let go of, potting his third goal of the year in the ninth minute on a feed from Julian Shamsaie in what would wind up being his first career game-winning goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Shamsaie added to the Greyhounds' lead less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal in the 11th minute, the first of the year and second of his career for the senior defender.

Ling stretched the lead to 3-0 early in the second half, scoring on his first career penalty kick attempt in the 52nd minute. David Kurz capped the scoring for the Greyhounds in the 60th minute with an unassisted goal, his second of the 2015 campaign.

The Greyhounds scored on their first four shots on goal and ended the game with a 9-2 advantage on the shot clock. Shots on goal were 5-0 in favor of the Greyhounds.

Christopher Jones earned his eighth clean sheet of the year without having to face a single shot in net. At the other end, Luke Heaton made one save for the Cardinals.

COACHES' CORNER
Head coach John Higgins: "Friday night we got off to a slow start, today we were able to start a lot faster and played with urgency from the opening whistle. Everyone got good touches, we made good passes and we created quality chances."

"It's great to see Chris Jones get the single season record for shutouts, but it's really a complement to our entire team. We've defended well all year, but our guys have been great keeping possession and have been able to take heat off of our defense this year. The record book will show that Chris has the record, but everyone has had a hand in the getting him to that point."

"We're in a good spot heading into the last three games of the year. Next weekend is going to be a tough one for us, but we're really confident with where we're at right now and being able to close out the year at home is big for us."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds return home to open up a three-game homestand to wrap up the regular season, starting with a Friday night showdown against Missouri S&T at Key Stadium. First whistle is set for 7:30 p.m.
