Hounds drop Friday night showdown to Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team controlled the pace of play in a rain-soaked matchup against the University of Southern Indiana.
 
But the Greyhounds were unable to translate a 20-6 advantage into their first conference win, falling to the Screamin' Eagles, 1-0.
 
GAME CHANGER
USI made the most of their one shot on goal, potting the game winner in the 57th minute when Madi Vellky corralled a ball in the box and beat Greyhound keeper Emma Crenshaw for the eventual game-winner.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Shots were 8-1 in favor of the Hounds in the opening half and UIndy had three chances in tight to notch the opening marker. Jocelyn Evans ('4), Michele Govern ('30) and Kacey Wells ('32) all had quality chances, but were turned aside each time by USI's Emily Hopkins.
 
Following the goal, they Greyhounds continued to swarm the USI net, recording 12 shots over the final 33 minutes of the match, including five shots on goal.
 
A total of 11 Greyhounds recorded at least one shot in the match. Stephanie Burdsall led all attackers with four shots and tied with Govern for the team lead with two shots on goal. Evans and Lindsey Adams both finished with three attempts each.
 
Hopkins turned aside all 10 shots she faced to earn the clean sheet for USI. Haley Rheinlander and Ryley Hancock assisted on Vellky's goal.
 
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will head to Lousiville, Ky. For a Sunday showdown with the #18-ranked Knights of Bellarmine University. Kick-off is set for noon.
