JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The UIndy football team orchestrated an impressive all-around win Saturday, going on the road to collect a 41-18 win at Lincoln University. Led by a stifling defense and a four-touchdown day from sophomore
Andrew Walker, the Greyhounds (7-1, 5-0 GLVC) upped their winning streak to six and remained in first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.
Â
In the Hounds' first-ever trip to Jefferson City, Mo., the UIndy defense was nothing less than smothering. The host Blue Tigers (1-7, 0-5) mustered just 56 yards of total offense through the first three quarters when facing the UIndy starters. The Greyhound "D" allowed just one first down in the entire first half, and that came only after a defensive penalty. The shutout held until early in the fourth quarter after the majority of the UIndy veterans were given a rest.
Â
Andrew Walker had a monster day offensively, racking up 129 rushing yards and a career-high four touchdowns. The Chicago product punched it in from six, six, one and 12 yards while averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
Â
The UIndy offense started the day with two three-and-outs before scoring on each of its final five possessions of the first half. The offensive onslaught started with an impressive 92-yard punt return touchdown by senior
Reece Horn. Already threatening to break a number of UIndy receiving records, the Carmel, Ind., native recorded the longest punt return for a score by a Greyhound since 1983* before finishing with 197 all-purpose yards on the day.
Â
The Greyhounds would take a 27-0 lead into the break and a 41-0 advantage into the fourth quarter before the Tigers finally got on the board.
Â
Sophomore
Brad Schickel was true on all six of his kicks on the afternoon. He was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, connecting from 25 and 22 yards, while making all four of his PATs.
Â
Linebacker
Cole Sigmund was credited with a personal-best 11 tackles to tie for the game high.
Lucas Rice (1.0),
Erik Hart (0.5) and
Lee Campbell (0.5) all recorded a sack, with the latter also corralling his first career interception to set up Walker's fourth and final TD.
Â
Meanwhile, senior quarterback
Connor Barthel hit a milestone in the second quarter, becoming the fifth-ever Greyhound to surpass 6,000 career passing yards.
Â
The Hounds remain on the road next weekend, traveling to Liberty, Mo., and William Jewell College for their longest trip of the season. The Halloween kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 31.
