Greyhounds earn third straight shutout win as team celebrates senior day

THE FINAL WHISTLE
Final: Drury 0 – UIndy 2
Records: Drury 7-7-2 (7-5-2 GLVC) | UIndy 10-4-2 (9-3-2 GLVC)
Location: Key Stadium – Indianapolis, Ind.

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's soccer was impressive again on Sunday afternoon, scoring once in each half to earn their third straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over Drury on Senior Day.

Prior to the game, the Hounds' men's soccer program honored seniors Leo Cunningham, JT Hiquet, Patrick McGuiness, Zak Mitiche, Julian Shamsaie and Brendon Widau before taking the field.

GAME CHANGER
Junior Jacob Meyer added to his team-leading goal total in the 29th minute, re-directing a Casey Zimmerman cross with the right foot past Drury goalkeeper Blake Andrews for his eighth tally of the year and fourth game-winner of the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
UIndy added to the lead in the 56th when Zak Mitiche got a heel on a one-touch pass from Josh Ling in close that found the back of the net. The play was originally ruled offsides, but was over turned after the officials determined that Mitiche was not in past the final defender. Ling and David Kurz picked up assists on the play.

Shamsaie added an assist on the opening goal, extending his point streak to three games in which the senior rear guard has contributed five points (1G, 3A).

Junior Christopher Jones needed to make only three second half saves to earn the win, his 10th clean sheet of the year. Shots were 13-8 in favor of UIndy. Meyer was buzzing around the net all day, leading all attackers with five shots, four on target.

Andrews turned aside eight shots in defeat for the Panthers.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDS
Senior JT Hiquet: "It's amazing to think this is one of the last times I'll be able to put on this jersey and play with these guys. Right now, we're playing really well and we're peaking at the right time. It was all you could as for a senior day. The shutouts are great and we're getting goals early and that's really been helpful for us."

Senior Julian Shamsaie: "It's crazy how fast these last four years have gone by and credit to our guys today. They played hard for everyone today. We take pride in our defensive stands and to get a couple shutouts heading into the postseason is huge for us and gives us a lot of confidence as the conference tournament rolls around."

Head coach John Higgins: "The guys are really confident and I'm delighted with both performances from this weekend. We played really well against two really good teams. You want to be peaking at the right time and I really think we are right now."

"The last few years we've started slow and really picked it up in October and this year has been no different. We've done an amazing job of staying together and picking each other up. We've got to keep doing what we're doing and take care of the details as we head into the last match of the regular season.
