Â
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team gave their youngest teammate a night to remember at Key Stadium, picking up their first GLVC win with a 1-0 overtime triumph over Illinois Springfield.
Â
The Greyhounds' TeamIMPACT student-athlete, Rory Halbert, made her first career start for the crimson and grey and got to see her teammates snap an eight-game skid and improve to 2-7-2 on the year. On top of picking up the win, UIndy raised $701 dollars to be donated to be split between the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance and the Spina Bifida Association.
GAME CHANGERWith time ticking down in OT,
Kelsey Miller sent a ball deep into Prairie Stars' territory where teammate
Stephanie Burdsall was waiting. Burdsall gathered the ball in and waited out UIS goalkeeper Paige Polonus before maneuvering around her and firing the ball into the net for her third tally of the season, tops on the Greyhounds.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCOREThe Greyhounds controlled possession and dominated on the shot clock, launching 19 shots to five for UIS. Burdsall and
Jocelyn Evans led all attackers with five shots, with Burdsall's four shots on goal leading all players.
Â
The Greyhounds had two quality chances to take the lead in the second half but both
Lindsey Adams ('64) and Evans ('73) were denied by the left post.
Â
Greyhounds' goalkeeper
Emma Crenshaw wasn't tested much, but still stopped three shots to earn her first career clean sheet. At the other end, Polonus turned aside 10 Greyhound shots before Burdsall's game-winner.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDSForward
Stephanie Burdsall: ""I had a lot of things racing through my head when I was moving in on goal. I thought I could chip it over her but she cut off the angle. I also thought about shooting it immediately, but I chose to go around her instead and it worked out. This win feels really good. We've been playing really well and dominating some games that we haven't been able to win. So this one feels great."
Â
Head coach
Holly Cox: "Tonight was no different than what we've been doing lately, we were just able to get the result we wanted. We had possession and had the chances we wanted and Stephanie finished it off with a great deal of composure. It always feels great to win, especially in overtime."
Â
"After the game, we just told them to keep doing what they did tonight. We're going to need to be ready to come out and give another effort like this to come away with a win."
