INDIANAPOLIS – After honoring its 11 senior student-athletes, the No. 18 UIndy football team (9-1, 7-0 GLVC) orchestrated a 38-14 victory against visiting Missouri S&T at Key Stadium Saturday night. The win not only extended the Greyhounds' winning streak to eight, but also clinched an outright Great Lakes Valley Conference title for the fourth straight season.
Â
UIndy's senior class of
Connor Barthel,
Josh Bass,
Lee Campbell,
O'rion Elder,
Reece Horn,
Mitch Huppert,
Daniel Lee,
Kevin Mason,
Chris Massaro,
Hayden Skirvin and
Austin Vogt have to date combined to help the Hounds to a stellar 38-8 (.826) record the previous four years, good for the most wins in school history in any four-year period.
Horn had another monster day for the Greyhounds, racking up 133 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. The Carmel, Ind., native sandwiched a pair of touchdown catches with his second punt return TD of the season – a 47-yard refund in the first quarter.
Â
UIndy racked up four touchdowns in the first half alone. The Miners, meanwhile, managed just 71 total yards and three first downs in the opening 30 minutes and did not score until the fourth quarter.
Â
UIndy needed just four plays to cover 70 yards in its first possession to take the early lead. Barthel found Horn with a 21-yard scoring strike to get the ball rolling.
Â
S&T's next two possessions featured a missed field goal and a punt that Horn took 47 yards to the house.
Â
Up two touchdowns after one quarter, UIndy scored consecutive TDs in the second to extend the lead to 28-0 by halftime. Barthel found pay dirt with a two-yard sneak, and Horn notched his third TD of the night with a six-yard TD catch.
Â
UIndy tacked on 10 more points in the third quarter before the Miners could answer. After a
Tommy Taylor sack on an S&T fourth-down attempt, running back
Andrew Walker out-ran the S&T defense for a career-long 65-yard touchdown run to extend the lead.
Â
On the ensuing kickoff, special-teams stalwart
Martece McClinton forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate
Collin Timmons, putting UIndy in business once again. The turnover yielded a 21-yard chip shot for sophomore kicker
Brad Schickel, capping the Greyhound scoring at 38 points.
Â
With the UIndy starters out of the game in the fourth quarter, the Miners broke the shutout by finding the end zone twice down the stretch, but their hopes of sharing the GLVC title with UIndy ultimately disappeared when the clock hit 0:00.
Â
Defensively, 21 Greyhounds were credited with at least one tackle. Freshman
Cole Sigmund had a team-high six stops; Taylor recorded two tackles for a total loss of seven yards; and
Jamie Placht,
Josh Bass and
Korey Rogan all had two pass break-ups.
Â
With the conference crown already in hand, the Greyhounds will need a win in the season finale at in-state Saint Joseph's next weekend to maximize their chances of securing a playoff bid. Kickoff from Rensselaer, Ind., is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.

Â
NOTESHorn moved into second all-time with 88 catches on the year, passing Cesare Manning (84, 2003) on UIndy's single-season list. Horn needs 12 more to break the school record of 99, set by Mar'Quone Edmonds in 2012 … Walker has scored at least one touchdown in every game this season. He also upped his streak of 100-yard rushing games to four … Senior
Lee Campbell's third-quarter sack was his 36th career tackle for a loss, good for fifth all-time … Senior
Connor Barthel had his 18th career start without throwing an interception.
