Hounds blanked by Flyers in GLVC opener

THE DETAILS
Final: UIndy 0 – Lewis 1
Records: UIndy 1-2 (0-1 GLVC) || Lewis 3-1 (1-0 GLVC)
Location: Lewis Field – Romeoville, Ill.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team opened GLVC play under the lights on Friday night against the Flyers of Lewis University.

After sitting through a one hour delay because of lightning in the area, the Greyhounds would fall behind the hosts early on, a goal that proved to be the deciding marker in a 1-0 Lewis victory.

GAME CHANGER
Just 3:40 into the match, the Flyers' Mackenzie Fuller headed home the eventual game-winning goal from the end line on a cross from Maggie Moran. The goal would wind up being the Flyers' only shot on goal of the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
After the early goal, the Greyhounds' offense would generate six shots before the end of the first half. Unfortunately, all six chances weren't able to find their way on goal.

Freshman Stephanie Burdsall had the Hounds' only shot on goal of the day and tied with Taylor Cotherman and Lindsey Adams for the team lead in shots with two.

It was a physical contest as the two teams combined for 25 fouls in the match, 15 for the Hounds and 10 for the Flyers.

The Flyers' Moran led all strikers with four shots while Fuller finished with a pair of chances. Jennifer Meyer needed to make only one save to earn the clean sheet.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDS
Head coach Holly Cox: "It was tough giving up a goal in the early going, but I was pleased with the way our kids pushed back and put some pressure on them in the first half. We just weren't able to get the equalizer, but sometimes that's the way the game goes."

"I was very proud with our compete level and the way we battled, we just couldn't finish tonight. Anytime you see that kind of intensity from your team in a spot where they could easily sit back and feel sorry for themselves, it's encouraging as a coach."

"It'll be nice to finally play at home. If we come out and play with the intensity that they did for most of the game, we can beat anyone. We're still looking to put together a complete 90 minute effort, but we're definately trending in the right direction."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will make their 2015 home debut on Sunday (Sept. 13) afternoon against the Rangers of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Kickoff from Key Stadium is set for noon.
