Greyhounds earn second consecutive overtime win

THE DETAILS
Final: Truman State 0 – UIndy 1
Records: Truman State 2-5 (2-3 GLVC) | UIndy 3-2-2 (2-1-2 GLVC)
Location: Key Stadium – Indianapolis, Ind.

INDIANAPOLIS - Playing in front of a packed crowd at Key Stadium, the University of Indianapolis men's soccer team overcame a man deficit to notch a 1-0 overtime win against Truman State on Friday night in GLVC play.

The win moves UIndy to 3-2-2 on the year and gives the Hounds their second consecutive OT win in their fifth straight game that has gone past the 90-minute mark.

GAME CHANGER
Less than three minutes into overtime, the Greyhounds lined up for a free kick just outside the box following a Truman State foul. Senior Zak Mitiche made the Bulldogs pay for the foul, drilling a shot past the Truman State wall and into the net for his first goal of the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
UIndy played over half the game down a man after Connor Cowan was given a straight red card in the 43rd minute after a foul. Even though they were short-handed, the Greyhounds would hold a 10-1 advantage on the shot clock the rest of the way. When the final whistle sounded, the Greyhounds held a 13-2 edge in total shots.

David Kurz led all players with five shots, three on goal. Mitiche finished with three shots and JT Hiquet had a pair for UIndy.

UIndy came close to notching the go-ahead goal twice in the second half. The first came in the 54th minute, when Evan Smith shook his defender and ripped a shot that was destined for the net until Bulldog keeper Drew Orf made a diving stop. Benjamin Sierra would try to go far post in the 80th minute and beat Orf, but just missed the far post and his shot rolled wide.

Christopher Jones needed to make only one save to pick up his fourth clean sheet of the year. At the other end, Orf stopped four shots for the Bulldogs.

Friday night was "Break Attendance" night at Key Stadium that saw 1,152 fans turn out for the match, shattering the previous single-game attendance record of 652, set back in 2013.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDS
Head coach John Higgins: "This is a massive result for us. I thought we turned a corner on Sunday and tonight, we showed a ton of character after going down a man. To be honest, it put the pressure on them to play a little bit being up a man and our guys did a great job digging deep and coming away with a big win."

"Most teams sit in against us and going down a man forced them to attack us. We knew if they opened things up, we would have a chance to counter and create some chances. It's amazing to outshoot a team 9-1 when you're down a man. It really shows just how good we are this year and it gives us a lot of confidence going forward."

Forward Zak Mitiche: "It's incredible pressure when you're playing down a man. We played excellent and we did a great job keeping the ball and generating chances. Despite being man down, we stayed after it and we got the result we were looking for."

"I'm not even the one that's supposed to be taking those free kicks. Josh (Ling) or David (Kurz) usually takes those. I just made a split-second decision when I saw their keeper off his spot a bit and it worked out for us."
