PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team opened the 2015 regular season on Friday afternoon, hitting the road to face off with defending G-MAC regular season and tournament champion Ursuline College.
Freshman
Sierra Singer potted the first goal of the season for the Hounds and first of her career early in the second half. But despite holding a 10-4 advantage on the shot clock in the second half, the Hounds were unable to overcome a first half that saw the Arrows score twice to hold on for a 2-1 win.Â
GAME CHANGERUrsuline's Vanessa Consiglio tallied both goals for the Arrows, scoring in the 10
th minute to make it a 1-0 game before adding the eventual game winner in the 33
rd minute. Consiglio was a force all game long, attempting six shots with five on goal.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCORESinger gave the Hounds an offensive spark off the bench, using her speed to generate a game-high seven shots, three of which were on target. Less than four minutes after she cut the Arrows' lead in half, Singer drew iron in her bid to tie the game, ringing a shot off the right post. In the 67
th minute, the iron was once again unkind to the Hounds as
Tia Peters' tying attempt got nothing but post.
Taylor Cotherman finished second on the Hounds with four shots on the afternoon. Making only her second career start in net, junior
Emma Crenshaw finished with five saves.
Emily Justus finished with four shots for Ursuline. The Arrows got five saves from Helen Jazzar, who picked up the win.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDSHead coach
Holly Cox: "We had a bit of a slow start in the first half and the second half was the complete opposite. Things started to come together and our passing was better and it showed because we generated some really good chances in the second half. We also got a real boost from Sierra up from front, we just weren't able to find the back of the net."
Â
"We know it's only one game and we told our kids that afterwards. But our coaching staff also challenged the team after the game to come out ready to go on Sunday and we feel that they're going to be ready to compete and win from the opening whistle."
UP NEXTUIndy heads to Painesville, Ohio on Sunday afternoon when they wrap up the holiday weekend against Lake Erie College. Kickoff is set for noon.
