Greyhounds notch first win of the year, shutout Cedarville

THE DETAILS
Final: UIndy 2 – Cedarville 0
Records: Cedarville, 1-1 || UIndy 1-1
Location: Key Stadium – Indianapolis, Ind.

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's soccer team bounced back from a season-opening defeat on Thursday in impressive fashion, shutting down the high-powered Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University on their way to a 2-0 win Saturday afternoon at Key Stadium.

The Greyhounds scored midway through the first half and following a nearly hour long delay for lightning, added an insurance marker midway through the second half.

GAME CHANGER
After entering the game off the bench in the first half, freshman Benjamin Sierra put the Hounds on top in the 26th minute when his corner kick bent around the near post, off a Yellow Jacket defender and into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner. It was the first goal of the Santiago, Chile-native's collegiate career.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Josh Ling tallied his first career goal for the Hounds in the second half, finishing off a touch from JT Hiquet that pulled the Yellow Jacket keeper out of position for an easy tap-in goal. Sierra and Jacob Meyer each had four shots to lead the Hounds while David Kurz launched three shots on the day.

In goal, Hounds' keeper Christopher Jones earned his second career clean sheet, making a trio of saves. The Avon, Indiana-native made his toughest stop of the day in the 12th minute, corralling a re-direct from Cedarville's Zach Harris in close. The Greyhounds held a Yellow Jacket offense that scored three times on Thursday to only seven shots total while attempting 14 of their own.

Harris topped the Yellow Jacket with three shots and Derek Braak finished with a pair of shots on goal. Paulo Pinto made a pair of saves in defeat for Cedarville.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDS
Head coach John Higgins: "Today was a great bounce-back effort from our guys. We've got a great group of leaders and they showed the kind of reaction you want after a disappointing result on Thursday. I thought we were much better with our possession today. Our movement was a lot better and that was critical for us today."

Goalkeeper Chris Jones: "I love games where I can just stand back and not have to do much. Everyone was great from back to front today and that made life for me in goal easy. Those are the kinds of games you play for."

Midfielder Josh Ling: "It's great to not only get a goal but to get a goal in a complete team win. We've been working with the coaching staff on getting in on crosses and JT (Hiquet) had some great support and made it easy for me to collect the ball and put it in."
