THE FINAL WHISTLE
Final: UIndy 2 – Maryville 1
Records: UIndy 6-8-0 (5-7-0 GLVC) | Maryville 5-9-0 (4-8-0 GLVC)
Location: Key Stadium - Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – Paced by a pair of first half goals from their attacking midfield, the University of Indianapolis women's soccer team recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, holding on for a 2-1 win over Maryville on Sunday

GAME CHANGER
The winning goal came on a great individual effort from sophomore Michele Govern. A ball was played deep into the Saints' end, where Govern fought off one of Maryville's center backs for a loose ball and ripped a shot on a short hop past goalkeeper Allison Riddle for her third goal of the year and first career game-winner.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
-Maryville was just a few feet away from taking an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when a crossing feed went off the fingertips of UIndy goalkeeper Emma Crenshaw with an attacker closing in on the ball on the back post. But just before the attacker could stuff the ball into the open net, freshman Jimmie Bowman made a goal-saving play to clear it off the goal line and keep things scoreless.

-Less than 10 minutes later, the Greyhounds got on the board midway through the opening half when Amanda Meyer dashed into the Maryville box, took a Stephanie Burdsall pass and beat Riddle from 10 yards out for her third tally of the season.

-Maryville cut the lead in half in the 56th minute when Allison Verville got a head on a long throw in from Ashley Pouge and re-directed the ball into the net for her fifth tally of the year. Verville was dangerous all day long, finishing with a game-high seven shot attempts.

-Shots were 14-11 in favor of Maryville with the Saints holding a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Emma Crenshaw turned aside six shots, the biggest coming on a riser from Kayla Torry in the 49th minute that she was able to get a finger on and deflect over the crossbar.

COACHES' CORNER
Head Coach Holly Cox: "This past week, we took some pressure off the ladies to step back and relax a bit and it may have paid off this weekend. We were focused and played with intensity and won a lot of battles on the field that helped us come away with a pair of wins."

"We stressed to our attacking midfielders this week that they need to get up in support to generate a few more scoring chances. Lo and behold, that's where both goals came from today. Amanda's goal was a real gritty effort and Govern's was just an outstanding individual effort."

"We take these games one at a time because if you look too far ahead, you forget about what's right in front of you. The conference tournament is a real possibility for us this year and we'll have to be ready for a tough road game coming up against Wisconsin-Parkside."
