GAME 1Foley got the start in game one needing just four Ks to hit the lofty milestone. The Louisville, Ky., native wasted no time, fanning each of the game's first nine batters to reach to 1,500 in the second inning. She went on to strike out 17 on the game while walking only one.
Â
Foley (30-0) carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Urbana third baseman Learic Kinser mustered a single to lead off the final frame. Kinser would come around to score an unearned run on an error later in the inning to break up the shutout.
Â
Offensively, the Greyhounds clicked early, hanging three runs on the board in the top of the first. After a one-out single by senior
Erika Goodwin, sophomore
Jessie Noone and junior
Natalie Lalich swatted back-to-back homers to put the visitors in the driver's seat.
Â
UIndy kept the pressure on, scoring two more in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the seventh. Noone accounted for a total of four ribbies by adding a two-run single in the fourth inning, Goodwin plated two with a seventh-inning double, while Lalich finished 3-for-4 and came a triple shy of the cycle.
Â
Katie Kelly and
Tayler Weck each had a pair of hits, and Samantha Beckwick chipped in a single and a walk.
Â
GAME 2Another early three-spot set the tone for game two. Kelly's leadoff walk and Noone's RBI double sparked the rally before Lalich punctuated it with her second home run of the day. The two-run shot upped her season total to a dozen, putting her just five away from the program's single-season mark.
Â
Noone, meanwhile, also had an impressive line, racking up two doubles, a single, two runs, a walk and a stolen base. Sophomore
Brooke Riess also notched a pair of doubles.
Â
UIndy once again got a solid performance in the circle, as senior
Miranda Tamayo went the distance to get the complete-game win. Tamayo struck out three and allowed one earned run to move to 10-1 on the year.
Â
The Greyhounds return to conference play this weekend when they head to St. Louis Saturday for a twin bill versus Maryville. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
