INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team fell victim to a blistering attack from visiting Cedarville Tuesday night, losing 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) in a regional matchup in the Ruth Lilly Center.
The Yellow Jackets (8-2) hit a season-high .375 as a team, totaling 48 kills and just 12 errors on their 96 swings. Three individuals had 12 or more kills, with each hitting above .435.
As they have done in many matches this season, the Greyhounds (2-6) went toe-to-toe with their opposition in the first set. After rallying from a five-point deficit, UIndy tied the match at 18 apiece on a solo block from sophomore
Kacee Salyers.
The visitors regrouped, however, and eventually won when Gabby Olsen slammed home one of her match-high 13 kills on set point. Cedarville hot a lofty .333 (16-4-36) as a team, setting the tone for an entire match worth of efficient offense.
The Yellow Jackets followed with a .519 (18-4-27) attacking effort in the following set, taking an early lead and never looking back. Salyers and freshman
Anna Fehribach paced UIndy with four kills each in the frame, helping UIndy hit over .300, but defensively the Hounds managed only five digs as a squad.
Despite a late push from the Hounds, Cedarville closed out the sweep with another strong effort in the third and final set. Although there were five ties throughout the match, the host Greyhounds never led during the entire contest.
Salyers led UIndy with 12 kills, followed by 11 from Fehribach. Senior
Becca Lira had eight kills and three blocks, hitting an efficient .389 (8-1-18).
Sophomore libero
Maggie Gibson led the Hounds with nine digs, and classmate
Remi Bowman had 31 assists.
UIndy begins Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday, traveling to meet Missouri-St. Louis Friday night at 8 p.m. ET before meeting Maryville the following day at 5 p.m.
