INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhound women's soccer team was impressive on Friday night in what was their first match in front of their home fans in 2016. The Greyhounds got a suffocating performance from their defense and rode a late first half goal to a 1-0 win over William Jewell at Key Stadium.

GAME CHANGER
UIndy dominated on the shot clock in the opening half, but couldn't find the back of the net with any of their first nine shots. The 10th shot proved to be the deciding goal and it came off the foot of Rebecca Riley, who gathered a slick pass from Sam Enloe and chipped the ball over William Jewell goalkeeper Jordan Lewis for her second goal of the year and her first career game-winner.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
The Greyhounds finished the game holding a 16-7 advantage in total shots. Stephanie Burdsall led all attackers with seven shot attempts and a pair of shots on goal.

UIndy limited William Jewell to five shots on goal, all coming from long distance. Emma Crenshaw was sharp when tested on her way to her third clean sheet of the year. With the shutout, the Hounds surpassed their total number of clean sheets from a year ago.

With her assist on Riley's goal, Enloe moves into a tie for third place on the Greyhounds in scoring. The Valparaiso, Ind.-native has potted two goals and assisted on three others this year.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDS
Goalkeeper Emma Crenshaw: "We had really good coverage all game. We worked during practice all week to keep the ball to the outside and we did a really good job executing that tonight."

"Our freshmen have made a huge difference in our team this year. They've come in and they've challenged everyone on the roster for their spots and that has had an impact on everyone. We have a team that's hungry and that wants to win and so far the results have really shown that."

Head coach Holly Cox: "It was a really good game for us tonight. Our back line did a really nice job limiting what William Jewell was able to do. Emma had a big part in that with the way she communicates and the middle of our defense was incredible tonight."

"If you're shooting on their goal, eventually it's going to go in. Our three forwards connected well most of the night and Rebecca's finish was outstanding. We need to keep being dynamic on the offensive end and getting quality runs and being technical in the offensive zone going forward. If we do that, we're going to like our result more often than not."

UP NEXT
The Hounds will look to make it a perfect opening homestand on Sunday afternoon when the Hawks of Rockhurst University pay them a visit. Kickoff from Key Stadium is set for noon.
