Burdsall strikes in extra time, snaps Greyhounds' two-game slide

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Greyhound women's soccer team was looking to stop a two-game winless streak on Sunday afternoon. Standing in their way were the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield, who were looking for their second straight victory.

Regulation didn't solve anything, so the Hounds and Prairie Stars headed to overtime where Stephanie Burdsall sent the Greyhounds home winners on the right end of a 1-0 result.

GAME CHANGER
Just a minute after hitting a post on a feed from Carah Kreimer, Burdsall and Kreimer connected for the game-winner on the exact same play. It was Burdsall's fifth goal of the year and gives her two overtime goals in as many career games against Illinois Springfield as she scored the lone goal last year's game between the two teams.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
UIndy goalkeeper Emma Crenshaw continued her stellar with 14 saves, matching a career-high and earning her third clean sheet of the year. No stop was bigger than her game-saving stop on a penalty kick midway through the first half that kept the game scoreless and made her 3-for-4 on penalty kicks stopped during her time with the Greyhounds.

Burdsall topped all Greyhounds with four shots, landing two on target. Kacey Wells' three shots on goal were the more among all Greyhounds as UIS held a 20-12 advantage in shot attempts for the match.

COACHES' CORNER
Head coach Holly Cox: "It was a battle on both sides and I felt we weren't at our best today. But we got the result that we wanted and the game-winner was the result of some flawless execution. We battled hard and we got a result and to do that on a Sunday on the road is huge for us."

"We were jumping in overtime. We hit a post early in OT on a great connection from Carah to Stephanie and a minute later, they connected on basically the same play and it wound up in the back of the net."

"Emma was great for us once again. She's the backbone of this team and she came up with a gigantic save on a penalty kick that could have changed the entire outlook of the game. At half, she showed her leadership and gave an exceptional speech that fired our team up and set a tone for the rest of the match."

UP NEXT
UIndy returns to action this coming Friday, Sept. 30, when they welcome No. 25-ranked Bellarmine University to Key Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
