Fifth-ranked Hounds stifle Hawks, move to 7-0

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 5 UIndy football team (7-0, 4-0 GLVC) continued its winning ways Saturday night with a lopsided 55-point shutout win against visiting Quincy University (3-4, 1-3) at Key Stadium. At 7-0 on the year, the Greyhounds are off to their best start since 1973.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds came out of their corner swinging, relentlessly punching the ball into the end zone on each of their first four possessions. Combined with a stingy defense, they would go on to a 35-0 lead at the half, with freshman Al McKeller accounting for three first-half touchdowns.

The Hawks did little to quell the momentum in the second half, as the visitors would muster just 172 total yards of offense on the night, compared to 540 for the Hounds.

Four Greyhounds finished with at least 50 rushing yards, with McKeller going for 143 yards and redshirt-sophomore Tyre Lee adding a career-high 101.

On the defensive side, the Greyhounds earned their first shutout since 2013. Senior safety Aeneas White led the team with six tackles, followed by redshirt-freshman Mitch Dewitt with five. Redshirt-sophomore Jacob Schmatz was credited with two sacks, with senior Dillon Dallas and freshman Bryce Edwards accounting for one apiece.

Redshirt-sophomore Noel Robleto and redshirt-junior Blake Luker each added a fourth-quarter interception to help keep the shutout intact. Both represented a career first, with Luker taking his 40 yards to the house for the game's final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday marked the second time this season that two Greyhounds have went for 100 yards rushing in the same game.
- Quarterback Jake Purichia attempted just 13 passes but completed 10 of them for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He added 51 rushing yards, including a QB keeper that went for 49 yards for his fourth rushing TD of the year.
- Though he came into the night with 36 career touchdowns to his credit, senior Andrew Walker scored just his second-ever receiving TD – a seven-yard catch in the first quarter. He added a rushing score in the second half and now sits just two back of the program record for career rushing TDs (38).
- Dallas finished with three tackles for a loss and added a forced fumble late in the first quarter. Fellow-defensive-lineman Lucas Rice recovered the loose ball, which set up the Hounds' third TD just two snaps later.

HOUND BYTES
Senior Dillon Dallas: "We had this game marked on our calendars for over a year now, going back the last year. It's kind of a payback game. It was our fourth payback game this year, and hopefully we can keep the ball rolling into Lincoln and William Jewell and the rest of our schedule."

Head Coach Bob Bartolomeo: "(The players) worked hard all week and prepared for this game, and I think one of the best things about it is the younger guys got involved, gave them some time to get some reps, and that was good to get a big lead and give those guys (experience). Those guys work as hard as the first-team, second-team guys, but again, it was good to get some of those young guys on the field and get a feel for what it's like to play in a college football game."

MORE NOTES
The win moves the Greyhounds to 7-0 on the season, matching the program's best start since 1973. They are currently riding an 11-game winning streak dating back to last season, one shy of matching the program record set back in 1953-54 … The Hounds have now beaten all four opponents on this year's schedule that defeated them in 2016 … UIndy was able to get playing time for a season-high 57 players.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds start a two-game road swing starting next Saturday when they face Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
