CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The UIndy volleyball team dropped a contest in straight sets on Tuesday night to in-region opponent, Cedarville, a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The loss sends the Greyhounds to 12-12 on the season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds and Yellow Jackets stayed within four points of each other for the entirety of the opening set. UIndy trailed 14-10 before an
Anna Fehribach kill tied it at 15 apiece. It was tied again a few rallies later, but Cedarville scored five of the final six points to win. The set had eight ties and four lead changes, more than the final two frames combined in those categories.
Â
A late rally by UIndy proved to be too late in the second set. The Yellow Jackets led 23-12 prior to the Greyhounds earning six of the last eight points. Fehribach added three more kills in the frame, while
Katie Furlong had two of her match-total of four.
Â
Cedarville jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third frame, a lead that appeared to be insurmountable for UIndy. Kills by Fehribach and Furlong, along with
Julia Kruzan and
Katie Voelz, sparked a comeback for the Greyhounds to tie the set at 16 apiece. Kruzan recorded a pair of kills thereafter to lead UIndy to a four-point lead, but the hosts scored nine of the final 12 points to defeat the visitors, 25-23.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Fehribach totaled a match-high 15 kills on .394 hitting. The sophomore has now reached double-digits the past three matches, including eight of the last nine contests.
Â
Jena Davis (10) and
Mary Grace Ertel (14) both reached double-digit digs. It was just the second time for Davis this season and the fifth instance of Ertel.
Â
Voelz had three solo stops in the loss, the junior's highest mark in the category in her career. She previously recorded two solo blocks six times.
