KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Looking to bounce back from three straight losses, the UIndy volleyball team ran into Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon, who had won six of its last seven matches.
Anna Fehribach kept up her team-leading pace on the attack, but the Hawks – who have been receiving votes in the AVCA top 25 all season – maintained consistent play throughout the contest to sweep the Greyhounds.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy jumped out to a 9-5 lead, thanks in part to a pair of kills from
Teigan Flaws and
Julia Kruzan. They Greyhounds held the advantage at 12-8, but the Hawks used an 8-0 run to claim the lead, in which they would never relinquish. A Fehribach kill pushed UIndy to within three late in the opening set, but it was too late for the visitors as it would lose, 25-17.
Â
The second frame began similarly to the first set as the Greyhounds grew an 8-4 lead out of the gate. Fehribach had three kills in the first eight points, but Rockhurst pushed ahead to 12-11. Kruzan tied it with a kill, but another run from the host Hawks put it out of reach for the Greyhounds. Rockhurst earned 13 of the final 19 rallies to take a 2-0 set advantage.
Â
The teams traded points until midway through the third set. UIndy failed to string points together until it was too late, as a kill by
Rachel Irbe and a trio of Rockhurst errors gave the Greyhounds a point in four of six rallies. The Hawks, however, would earn the final two points to win in a sweep, 25-19.
