INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team got a strong effort from
Teigan Flaws and in the blocking game on Tuesday night, but Bellarmine overall defensive effort proved too much for the Greyhounds as the hosts fell in straight sets. The loss drops UIndy to 12-15 on the season and 7-7 in GLVC matches.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The UIndy defense had a strong showing in the first set, blocking three Bellarmine attacks, including a solo stop from
Kailey Kleinert. However, the Greyhounds hit a mere .024 in the opening frame and could not overcome the Bellarmine balanced attack.
Anna Fehribach recorded four kills in the frame, while
Rachel Irbe tallied eight digs and hit .286. The Knights controlled most of the set before winning, 25-19.
Â
The second set was more competitive between the teams as there were six ties and a pair of lead changes. Flaws had two solo blocks, while the team had four more in the frame, but the Greyhounds could not get the offense going before losing, 25-20. Flaws saw success in the set, totaling four kills on .500 hitting, while
Jena Davis had seven digs to add to her three from the first game.
Â
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third set, thanks in large part to Flaws and Irbe on the attack. The offense began to click as the team attacked at a .233 rate throughout the set, but Bellarmine proved relentless on defense. The Knights went on a 13-6 run to even the set, and powered through to victory, 25-22. Davis added another seven digs to finish with 17 on the night, while Irbe was one kill away from a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Alexis Waugh dished out 22 assists on the night, while
Alyssa Spears only had six. It is the first time this season that one member of the duo recorded at least 20 dimes, while the other finished in single-digits.
Â
Flaws reached double-digit kills for the fourth time this season after finishing with 10 against Bellarmine. It is also the second time that the senior has led the team in kills, with the other time being against Southern Indiana on October 21.
Â
Kleinert recorded her 13th solo block of the season and her fourth in five matches. The senior is second on the team in the category, three behind
