LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIndy volleyball team's winning streak came to an end Tuesday night as it lost in four sets (17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 18-25) to Bellarmine.
Olivia Martin set a new program record with 41 digs in the match, surpassing the previous mark last obtained by Kyleigh Turner in 2007.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds started the match slowly, quickly trailing the Knights by six. A pair of kills by
Anna Fehribach put UIndy only down two at 17-15, but Bellarmine ran away with the first set, going on an 8-2 run to close it out.
Â
The second set began opposite of the first frame as the teams exchanged points to 14-14. Three straight points by Bellarmine forced a UIndy timeout, which sparked a couple of errors by the home team. However, a kill by
Rachel Irbe proved not to be enough as the Knights scurried to take a 2-0 lead.
Â
After trailing for most of the third frame, UIndy won five consecutive rallies to take a 22-20 lead. Kills by
Teigan Flaws set up the Greyhounds to finish the set, and Irbe sealed it.
Â
The fourth set almost mirrored the first frame as the Greyhounds were quickly down, 7-2. A kill by
Lauren Koopman made the score 14-10 in favor of the Knights, but the home team rallied to take a 19-12 lead. Once again, Koopman ended a rally by Bellarmine, but the Greyhounds would fall, 25-18, in the deciding set.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach
Jason Reed: "Tonight wasn't our best performance. I think we were outplayed and outworked. That's not what we've seen from this group all season. Bellarmine was better than us all night."
Â
"We need to get back to work tomorrow. We are excited to get back home and get back on track, but right now all we can do is learn from our mistakes."
Â
"We didn't pass well tonight and had a tough time getting kills with all of our hitters. Bellarmine defended us pretty well and forced us into making some errors."
Â
HOME BOUND
The Greyhounds end their road trip with a 3-1 record after defeating each of Wisconsin-Parkside, Quincy, and Maryville prior to the loss at Bellarmine. UIndy returns home to Ruth Lilly Fitness Center for matches against Missouri S&T on Friday at 6 p.m. and William Jewell on Saturday at 3 p.m.Â
