INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team got back on the winning track Friday evening in Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. After dropping a four-setter on Tuesday at Bellarmine, the Greyhounds rallied for a sweep of conference-foe Missouri S&T. The win improves the Greyhounds to 10-7 on the season, and 5-3 in GLVC action.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhound defense stood its ground tonight in the three-set victory. UIndy gained the lead early in the first set at 7-6 and never looked back. Two kills by
Katie Voelz in a three-point stretch grew the lead, sparking a 6-0 run for the Greyhounds.
Teigan Flaws rebounded from a previous attacking error to finish off the frame with a kill.
Â
Missouri S&T jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, but once again Voelz dropped a pair of kills past the visiting defense. UIndy forced three straight attacking errors against Missouri S&T en route to a 10-0 run.
Rachel Irbe and
Anna Fehribach paced the Greyhound offense to close the set and win, 25-18.
Â
Once again the Greyhounds played from behind right out of the gate in the third frame, but the home team went on another rally to lead 14-12. UIndy took advantage of the Missouri S&T attacking errors, while Flaws put the perennial nail in the coffin with a kill to make it 21-15.
Julia Kruzan used her final of seven kills to close out the sweep of the Miners.
Â
In total, Missouri S&T hit just .049 with 19 attacking errors. The UIndy defense stifled the Miner attack with eight blocks and a total of 61 digs.
Kailey Kleinert led the way for the Greyhounds with five blocks of her own, including two solo stops.
Olivia Martin, fresh off her program-setting 41-dig performance at Bellarmine, recorded 22 digs, the seventh time this season the freshman has tallied 20 or more.
