Men's soccer pulls out wild 2-1 win in the rain over UIS

INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Indianapolis men's soccer team overcame an early red card on Sunday, rallying to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the visiting Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars.

Javier Steinwascher gave the Hounds an early lead, finishing a James Jenkins pass with a goal in the third minute. In the very next minute, however, Andrew Dunkin was sent off, putting the Hounds down a man. Rhys Wallace scored the ensuing free kick to level the score.

As the rain fell in the second half, the Hounds held off the Prairie Stars until a red card against the visitors put each side at ten men on the pitch. The Greyhounds began to have more opportunities and finally broke through with another goal by Steinwascher off another Jenkins assist in the 85th minute to win the game 2-1.

Despite being a man down for most of the game, the Hounds outshot their opponents 14-5 and put eight of their shots on target.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach John Higgins: "I'm really proud of our guys for being super disciplined. We have a bunch of guys in the locker room that care about the program. We fought through massive adversity as we played over an hour with a man down. We worked hard as a group to limit their opportunities and ended up earning a massive team culture win. I really like our group and I'm excited to see us put it all together in the final weeks of the season."

With the win, the Hounds remain in fourth in the conference table, one-and-a-half games behind the Rockhurst Hawks.

The Hounds will visit the Quincy Hawks on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
