INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team kicked of the 2017-18 season with an exhibition contest at Division I Wright State Wednesday night. The host Raiders pulled away in the second half in what finished as a 92-44 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
An
Ashley Montanez jumper with eight minutes to go in the first half pulled the Greyhounds to within a deuce, but the Raiders answered by forcing three consecutive turnovers to fuel a 10-0 run and create some space. Wright State would lead by 14 at the half before going on to the 48-point win.
Â
Though the Raiders managed a 12-4 edge in second-chance points, the stat that most affected the Hounds was their turnovers. UIndy gave the ball away 24 times on the night, compared to just eight turnovers by the Raiders.
Â
As she did much of last season, senior
Martha Burse led the way for the Greyhounds, notching team highs with 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Montanez added six points, four boards and two blocks; freshman
Taylor Drury compiled five points and five rebounds and senior
Devin Ferguson notched five assists.
Â
Five Raiders finished in double figures, including Mackenzie Taylor with 18 points.

HOUND BYTES
"We have to be better passers and better decision makers," said Head Coach
Kristin Wodrich. "They sped us up and we made poor decisions, and it led to points. We had a lot of live-ball turnovers that led to baskets for them, and we gave them a ton more possessions. We just have to really limit our turnovers."
