Chargers hold off Hounds in Sunday matinee

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team (0-2) dropped its second straight region game Sunday, falling 76-70 to visiting Hillsdale (1-1). Senior Martha Burse led all players with 27 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy trailed by as much as 12 points in the fourth quarter before whittling it down to three with three minutes to go. The Hounds mustered an 11-4 run to make it a one-possession game, with eight points in that span coming from Burse.

Later, freshman Taylor Drury knocked down a triple to help cut it to three once again with just a minute remaining, but the Greyhounds would not get any closer as the Chargers would hold their hosts scoreless for the final 63 seconds.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Drury was second on the team with nine points, all coming from behind the arc.
- Senior Devin Ferguson led all players with five assists.
- Burse got to the foul line 11 times, sinking nine of her attempts (.818).
- The Hounds committed 14 turnovers Sunday, six fewer than the previous game versus Northern Michigan.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Kristin Wodrich's thoughts on game…
"I thought our kids played really hard. They took the game plan and did what they were supposed to do. They moved the ball well, got downhill, and we got good shots but they just didn't fall."

Wodrich on the team's comeback run…
"Our guards did a really nice job of putting pressure on them and turning the ball over. We kept the tempo, and we didn't get tired down the stretch. Our post players got in foul trouble and our freshman Taylor Drury really stepped up and had to go down there on the block, so I was really proud of her for that. The effort was there tonight, but we just fell short."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds start a lengthy stretch of road games when they travel to in-region Grand Valley State Friday, Nov. 17 – the first of six consecutive games away from Nicoson Hall.
