Hounds start road trip with loss at Grand Valley

ALLENDALE, Mich. – In the first of six consecutive road games, the UIndy women's basketball team fell at Grand Valley State Friday night, 77-57. The Greyhounds are now 0-3 on the season, with each loss coming to region opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Led by senior guard Martha Burse, the Hounds had a strong start to the evening. Burse knocked down an early triple to put the visitors up 14-9 seven minutes in, but the Lakers (3-0) scored the final eight points of the quarter and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

UIndy managed a season low with 13 turnovers, but Grand Valley excelled on the boards, especially on the offensive end. All told, the Lakers out-paced the Hounds 15-4 on the offensive glass, resulting in a 15-0 discrepancy in second-chance points.

The Greyhounds have yet to find the touch from distance. After shooting just three times from behind the arc in the opener, the Hounds are a combined 12 for 46 (.261) from deep in the previous two games combined.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Burse led the team in scoring and rebounding for the second straight game, finishing with a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds while adding three steals.
- Butler-transfer Alexa Bailey made her debut in the UIndy starting lineup, amassing eight points and two assists.
- Senior Ashley Montanez contributed eight points and five rebounds.
- Four Lakers finished in double figures, while senior Korynn Hincka grabbed 14 boards.

HOUNDS BYTES
Thoughts from Head Coach Kristin Wodrich…
"We started off the game early well and really moved the ball. Grand valley is well coached and played hard. Martha came up with some big shots, but we fell short on the defensive end. We have to regroup and be ready to go Sunday."

UP NEXT
UIndy continues in-region play when they head to Midland, Mich., Sunday for a matinee at Northwood University. Tip is set for 1 p.m. ET.
