HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams played well in the opening set before Illinois-Springfield won, 25-22. The visitors attacked at a .333 clip, while the Greyhounds hit just .234.
Anna Fehribach had five kills in the frame for UIndy, followed by
Lauren Koopman's four. The senior Waugh had 10 of her 17 assists in the set, as the team assisted on each of the 16 kills. The Prairie Stars defense played a major factor in the game, totaling two-and-a-half blocks and 20 digs.
Â
The second set didn't bode well for the Greyhounds, hitting -.024 as a team. Koopman, along with
Katie Furlong and
Rachel Irbe, had a pair of kills, while the former added a solo stop to her stat line. UIndy scored nine of 11 points near the end of the frame, but it was too late before Illinois-Springfield took a 2-0 set lead with the 25-20 victory.
Â
There were seven ties and five lead changes in the third set, but the Prairie Stars held onto the big lead they gained to finish the sweep, 25-22. Irbe had five of her seven kills in the frame en route to hitting .385 in the two sets she saw action in.
Jordyn Barrette and Waugh each dished out five assists, while the senior also recorded two digs and a service ace.
