UIndy Athletics Unveils 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees

The University of Indianapolis Department of Athletics and the Greyhound Club are pleased to announce the 2018 UIndy Athletics Hall of Fame inductees.

The Hall of Fame ceremony will occur Saturday, February 3rd. The inductees will be introduced at halftime of the men's basketball game against Maryville University, which begins at 3:15 p.m. Following the game at 5:30 p.m., dinner and the induction ceremony will take place at Primo Banquet Hall and Convention Center.

The event will feature the official Hall of Fame inductions as well as brief remarks by the recipients.

UIndy Athletics is proud to introduce this year's inductees:

Harold Boyd is a 1962 graduate of Indiana Central Central College, where he was a three time letterwinner for the men's basketball team. He is a distinguished member of the 1,000 point club, holds the record for rebounds in a single game, and is 6th in school history for career average rebounds. In 1962, Boyd was selected as a member of the All-Conference Team, awarded Most Valuable Player, and was named the recipient of the Walter Brenneman Annual Sportsmanship Award. After graduation from Indiana Central, Boyd established and managed 40 boys and girls basketball teams in the National Junior Basketball League. He spent his teaching and coaching careers at Rio Americano High School, Sacramento High School and Christian Brothers High School.

John W. Hurrle is a 1955 graduate of Indiana Central College, where he was a standout member of the football team. Hurrle was named the Most Valuable Player on the team in both 1952 and 1954. In 1976, Hurrle was named to the All-Time Indiana Central University Football Team. He was inducted into the University of Indianapolis Hall of Fame in 2001 as a member of the 1953 football team. After graduation from Indiana Central, Hurrle earned his Masters of Science from Butler University. During his 30+ years of coaching, he was named the 1976 and 1979 Indiana Wrestling Coach of the Year, was elected into the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame, and was nominated for the National Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1982. Hurrle served as the Head of the Athletic Department at Arsenal Technical High School from 1985-1991. On May 22, 1992, former Indiana Governor, Evan Bayh proclaimed the date to be JOHN HURRLE MEMORIAL DAY throughout the entire State of Indiana.

Richard Reasoner is a 1957 graduate of Indiana Central College where he was a three-year letterwinner in basketball and a four-year letterwinner in track. Reasoner was a member of the 1955-56 basketball team that tied for first place in the HCC, won the District 21 regional championship, advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. On the track, Reasoner was the Little State High Jump Champion in 1954 and was elected team captain in 1957. He held the ICC High Jump Record from 1954-1960 and led the team in points in 1957. After graduation, Reasoner served as a public-school teacher, coach, counselor, and administrator from 1957-1999. He was named the Hall of Fame "I" Person of the Year in 2002, and in 2014, Reasoner was named a Distinguished Hoosier in the State of Indiana.

Erin (Moran) Maurer is a 2005 graduate of the University of Indianapolis where she was a four year letterwinner, three-time Most Valuable Player and served as captain of the women's basketball team. She is the second all-time leading scorer, the all-time three-point leader, and holds the record for most three pointers made in a season, career and single game. In 2003, Maurer led the the nation in three-point percentage at 54.4%. Under her leadership, the Greyhound women's basketball team achieved the program record for winning percentage, going 29-3, and made three NCAA Tournament appearances in four years. After graduation from UIndy, Maurer began her career as a caregiver at a preschool and daycare, and as an assistant basketball coach at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis.

James Tonte is a 1985 graduate of the University of Indianapolis and four year varsity letter winner in wrestling. While team captain for the wrestling program, Tonte placed in several major tournaments including the Little State Meet, Midwest Tournament and the NCAA Midwest Regional, and was crowned HCC Conference Champion. After graduating from UIndy, Tonte began a highly successful career as a wrestling coach at Tri-West, Perry Meridian and currently at Warren Central High School. Throughout his 31 years of coaching, Tonte has amassed an overall record of 525-89 with numerous conference, sectional, regional and semi-state titles and five state championships. He has received numerous awards for his commitment to the sport of wrestling including induction into the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, a 15-time recipient of Conference Coach of the Year, and two-time Indiana National Coach of the Year.

1975-76 Wrestling Team: While under the leadership of head coach Terry Wetherald, the 1975-76 Indiana Central wrestling team completed a 12-2 season in duals, and defeated seven NCAA Division I wrestling programs. The season was highlighted by clinching the Little State meet and the Indiana Collegiate Conference. Individual conference champions include Joe Myers, Mark Gray, Mark Dullaghan, Carmen Hurley and Tomp Zupancic. Mark Dullaghan capped off the season with an 8th place finish at the 1976 NCAA DII National Championship.

"I" Person of the Year: George Fleetwood is a 1976 graduate from the University of Indianapolis where he pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Government and was a member of the men's basketball team. After his time as a Greyhound, Fleetwood continued his education at Indiana State where he completed his Master's Degree and began his career in education, public service and local government. In 2000, Fleetwood assumed the role of President of AT&T Indiana until his retirement in 2013.
