Kump sets two single-game records, Hounds punish Battlers in home finale

INDIANAPOLIS – Playing in front of their home crowd for the final time in 2017, the UIndy men's lacrosse team left little doubt on Saturday afternoon with an emphatic 17-2 win over Alderson Broaddus at Key Stadium.

Sophomore Parker Kump had a record-setting day for the Greyhounds (7-5), filling the net eight times and adding one assist for nine points. The Surrey, B.C.-native broke the previous record for goals (six) and points (eight) in a game, records he shared with teammate Shawn Kimble.

Parker Johnson netted three goals for UIndy, as did Kimble, who tacked on three assists to finish with six points on the afternoon.

Kump wasted no time getting the Greyhounds on the board, scoring seven seconds into the first quarter on a feed from Kimble. Less than a minute later, the Hounds grabbed a two goal lead on Johnson's first tally of the day

Kump tacked on two more goals in the first with a Sam Horning tally sandwiched in between and UIndy held a 5-1 lead after one quarter.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter where the Hounds potted six more goals while holding the Battlers off the scoreboard. Kump added three more goals in the period while Parker Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Scott LaPoe also tickled the twine for UIndy.

Kimble and Kump each scored twice in the third to stretch the lead to 15-1 after 45 minutes. Kimble and Parker Johnson both completed their hat tricks early in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring for the Hounds.

Horning led the Greyhounds with four assists. Matthew Johnson handed out two helpers and Tyler Johnston and Conor Acus both found their way onto the score sheet with one helper each.

Specialist Dominic Guarino was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 17-of-21 draw and finishing with a team-high eight ground balls. UIndy scooped up 33 ground balls on the day to 18 for the Battlers.

On defense, Jake Wittmeyer and LaPoe led the way with two forced turnovers each. UIndy caused six of the Battlers' 12 giveaways on the day.

Jarod Kimble (7-5) stopped eight shots in just under 37 minutes to earn the win for UIndy. Tanner Gurin and Connor Konas both saw time in the cage, making two and six saves, respectively.

The Greyhounds wrap up the regular season on Saturday, May 6, when they head to Gaffney, S.C. to take on top-ranked Limestone College. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
